Color Play Friday-Link up

I am back this week to link up with another Color Play Friday.  It is really nice to get recommitted to the blog. Plus, it is fun challenging myself to cultivate a better palette. Creating a palette in quilting can be hard for me. I still feel like I have training wheels on though.  Each week, I like to start with a print that I love. Yellow seemed  so obvious, but I couldn't leave it out. I started with some blues. Added some grey. Bland, bland, bland. Obviously, it just had to have a  pop of color. I am beginning to see a trend here. ;)

I have been to NYC when I was 16, and it was amazing. The driving is crazy.  The city itself seems so alive with all the noise and people. It really is the city that never sleeps. You can go out in the middle of the night and always find food.  Just for that reason, I fell in love. Although, I am a small town beach girl, it was an amazing experience to go there and visit. I used to dream of going to live there, but my heart is here. Just as it was meant to be.  Home is where the heart is. I love that line.

1,Joel Dewberry 2.Karen Lewis Textiles 3.Cotton and Steel 4.Cotton and Steel 5Allison Glass

These designers are some of my very favorite. I stumbled across Joel Dewberry's new line also that is coming out in March. It is going to be amazing, of course. Karen Lewis, I don't know how I don't have any of her fabrics in my stash. She has an amazing eye for color and design. Blueberry Park needs to get on the must buy list. Cotton and Steel is my jam.  All of their designers are amazing. I had my first fan girl moment at quiltcon 2015. Which was embarrassing, especially since it kept happening. Haha.   I love the octopus and have it in a voile too.  Allison Glass is last but not least, Mercury and her newest lines are very beautiful. They are always bright and colorful.

If you would like to play along next week, you can stop over at Lorinda Laurel Poppy and Pine or Trina's blog In an Otter Life for the details. Hop on over and see what other pallettes everyone has come up with. They always amaze me. Check out the #colorplayfriday on Instagram.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you have a great weekend.

  1. Oh man!!! I wanted to use the last cotton and steel fabric in my bundle, but I've already used it before so I resisted! I'm so glad that you put it in yours, it just seems to fit so well! I also love how blue and yellow tends to make me think of a country farm house sort of palette but you totally made it urban :)

    1. Thanks, Trina. I really enjoy blue. I don't have much of it in my stash. So, it was fun to play with here. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. A blue and yellow palette was what I originally had planned for my own bundle, so I'm really glad to see someone else saw it too and ran with it! My creative mind took me right to little boy stuff since I've been thinking about boy quilts a lot lately. I love every single fabric you chose- and they all look so great bundled together.

    1. Thank you, I am trying to get some really good bundles. Yours looks great for a boy quilt too. I have the hardest time with the boy quilts.

  3. I just love that we each see the same picture so differently. I never would have thought to go with just the blues. Your palette looks great with the picture. I too almost chose that octopus from C&S, I love that print. Your fabric choices made your bundle appear to have as much movement as the city that never sleeps. That's pretty awesome!

  4. Yvonne - this is a really fun palette. I love all the blues. I wanted to use the Alison Glass mercury print in another color, but it just didn't fit right. I love it in yours. And the octopi - anything with the octopi. Very fun. Makes me think of a swanky restaurant in the city.
